Tipsy in hewikisource

Hello. As per what i see here - https://he.wikisource.org/w/index.php?diff=2757889 -, you made an edit of a removal of TIPSY from the hebrew wikisource which has created a severe breakdown of an important part of the website. we had a few templates that use TIPSY for calculating of numerical values of number (being that there are many hebrew books that use extensive use of the numerical values as part of their main content). Now unfortunately those functions are no longer working.

Could i ask you to kindly revert the edit that was done above and return functionality of TIPSY to our website?

Hi there, reverting this change won't actually restore the gadget. I actually made that change because the gadget was already broken and it was becoming a privacy problem (more information at meta:User:Jon_(WMF)/Edit_to_user_or_gadget_script if you are interested.

The tipsy library code has been removed from MediaWiki software (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/2023/19 for the update) and will unfortunately need to be rewritten. We've been sending warnings about that since 2017 but it looks like nobody has been maintaining the code and keeping it up to date since 2018 😔.

So... it looks like the Wikisource community will need to find someone new and willing to help with fixing the gadget to get it working again. I'm here to provide help to anyone in the community who might want to do that work but I can't do that work myself in my capacity as a staff member. I'm sorry to bear this bad news! I'm not seeing from the pages you referenced anything that explains specifically what the errors are in the gadget Tipsy and what needs to be fixed. could you elaborate what exactly are the errors of TIPSY that need to be fixed?--Roxette5 (שיחה) 05:09, 21 ביולי 2023 (IDT)

The tipsy library was removed so any references to .tipsy will result in a JavaScript error. The code must be rewritten. It could use OOUI.PopupWidget for example. Jdlrobson (שיחה) 01:01, 22 ביולי 2023 (IDT)
