Welcome to the Hebrew Wikisource

[עריכה]

אם אתה דובר עברית לחץ כאן Hello, and welcome to the Hebrew Wikisource (called "Wikitext" in Hebrew). Wikisource – The Free Library – is a collaborative, multilingual, volunteer project to build an online library of digital texts under a free and open license.

The Hebrew Wikisource specializes in Hebrew-language texts. We have a large and growing collection of traditional Jewish literature from the Bible through classic, medieval and modern rabbinic literature. We also host Haskalah (early modern) and modern Hebrew literature, as well as Hebrew translations of literature and texts in other languages.

Here is some information that we hope will be of use to you:

  • Edit: When you use our texts, if you find something to add or correct then you can and should do so! Click on "edit" at the top of the page and edit to the best of your understanding. (Before saving the changes, you should first click on the "Show preview" and make sure the editing was done properly. You should also add a note in the edit summary about the kind of correction or addition you have made, so that other volunteers who check your edit will better understand what you are trying to do.)
  • Talk pages: at the top of each Wikisource page there is a "talk" link. Clicking on it leads to discussion regarding the page entry. On this page you can discuss the text with other Wikisource users and previous editors of the page. You can easily add a comment to the "talk" page by pressing the plus tab (+) located at the top of the page.
  • Signatures: It is highly recommended to sign off at the end of every comment you write on a "talk" page. To do so, add these four characters "~~~~" (the character is called tilde or zarqa) at the end of the text you wrote (or else just click the "signature button" on the toolbox above the editing window). These signs will become automatic signature that includes your name, link to your user page, and the time and date that the message was written. Please note: Talk pages are for signatures only: It is not customary to leave signatures on Wikisource content pages.
  • User pages: Every registered Wikisource user has a personal "User" page and a "User talk" page. The "User Page" (accessible by clicking on the name of the user) is usually used as a means of sharing details about yourself. The user's talk page (like this page) is for your individual messages and conversations with others.
  • Personal Message: To send a message, or a notification to a specific user, you should go to that user's personal "talk page" (by clicking on his/her name, and then clicking on his "talk" tab) and leave a message. After adding a message on the talk page, the user will receive a notification that a message is waiting.
  • Getting Help: If you need extra help you can read the help pages. If you want to ask a question related to Wikitext, you may do so at the main community forum called the "Miznon" (English is fine there).

Please note: Do not upload copyrighted material or translations of it to Wikisource. Such an act constitutes a criminal offense and is violation of our policies.

I'd be very happy to help if you have a question or a problem (as would many other Wikisource editors).

Thanks for your contribution and enjoy the website!
